3 minute read

Walnuts are a popular snack and a healthy addition to many meals. They are rich in protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals. But did you know that you can prepare your walnuts in a very special way to give them even more flavor? You need to caramelize your walnuts. Caramelized walnuts are a simple and delicious recipe that anyone can make at home.

Caramelize walnuts

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place the walnuts in a pan and toast over a medium heat until fragrant and lightly browned. Be sure to roast the nuts before caramelizing, as this brings out the natural flavour of the nuts and makes them crunchier.
  2. In a separate pan, heat the brown sugar, salt and vanilla extract (if using) over a medium heat until the sugar has melted.
  3. Add the roasted walnuts to the melted sugar and stir well until the walnuts are completely covered.
  4. Place the walnuts on a baking tray lined with baking paper and leave to cool.

Tips:

  • Make sure the walnuts are evenly covered in the sugar mixture to ensure even caramelization.
  • When the walnuts have cooled, you can put them in an airtight container and store them for up to a week.
  • Add spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg or ginger to give the snack a special touch.
  • Use maple syrup or honey instead of brown sugar to achieve a different flavor.
