How are peanuts grown?
Peanuts are usually grown on the ground and require a long growing period of around 120-150 days. The cultivation of peanuts requires a warm climate and a well-drained soil with a pH value of 5.5-7.0.
-
Sowing: Peanuts are usually sown by hand. They are placed in furrows that are about 15 cm deep and 30 cm apart.
-
Care: During the growing season, the plants require regular watering and fertilizer. Weeds must be removed to protect the plants from competition for water and nutrients.
-
Harvest: The peanuts are harvested after the growing season. This is usually done manually by pulling the plants out of the ground. The peanuts are then separated from the plants and laid out to dry.
-
Drying and storage: After harvesting, the peanuts must be dried properly to ensure that they do not absorb moisture and can be stored for longer. They are usually dried in the sun or in special drying rooms. Once properly dried, they are packed in bags or containers and stored in a cool, dry place.
Peanuts are an important crop that is cultivated worldwide. They are mainly found in warm climates and are suitable for human consumption as well as for the production of oil and other products. Growing peanuts in different regions of the world can improve food security and strengthen local economies.
